Letter From the President
The older I get, the more I realize how fast time goes. This year not only marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Seattle Space Needle, it is our chapter’s golden anniversary. In celebration of our 50th, the chapter is having an evening celebration at the Museum of Flight on October 27, 2012. Please mark the date and plan to bring spouses, friends and others. The event will start at 6:00 pm and has many special presentations. Our keynote speaker is Dr. Patricia Benner, RN, PhD, FAAN, FRCN, an internationally noted researcher, author and lecturer. More information is available in the winter 2012 newsletter. Many of you have been members of STTI for a substantial number of years and it would be wonderful to have you attend this very special event. It will be an opportunity for all members to meet others and learn more about the chapter. The work of the chapter is ongoing; this year we are focusing on student nurse leadership and development opportunities. The idea is to involve nursing students in leadership activities prior to induction into membership. The goal is to foster professional development and encourage involvement with the organization. Pacific Lutheran University has established such a program and the University of Washington is in process of establishing a similar student leadership group. The two student groups plan to meet in April to share ideas on future activities for student nurse leaders. The chapter is committed to providing professional development opportunities for members. To this end, the chapter sponsored a fall program and two winter programs. The fall program included presentations on the research conducted by Dr. Lori Loan and Dr. Mary McCarthy regarding Measuring the Effects of Nurse Staffing on Patient Outcomes. The two winter programs included the Seattle Research Consortium Conference and Workshop in January and the Global Health and Caring program in February. Information on these programs can be found in our Chapter News.
As always, I welcome your feedback on the work of the chapter and encourage
your involvement in chapter activities. If you have suggestions for upcoming
programs and community activities, please contact me at mindy291@rainierconnect.com
Sincerely, |
This year not only marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Seattle Space Needle, it is our chapter’s golden anniversary.
